Our YT Choice for the Vid of the Wk - "Roaring Twenties-Titina-1925-Nat Shilkert Orchestra".

For the first week of May 2017 - we chose a video uploaded by Dr.240252 on March 19-2017 titled "Roaring Twenties - Titina - 1925 - Nat Shilkret Orchestra". The instrumentation in this variation of this famous piece - sounds upbeat,"funky" and fun to listen while smiling; many artists recorded this tune as one of the most famous ones from the beginning of the twentieth century; this unique melody - made an unknown French composer - Leo Daniderff - immediately enormously famous all over the world. Almost every country has their funny version of lyrics to this song - regarding the purported - wild adventure of "Titina".
Charlie Chaplin sang this composition (one of his very scarce, on-screen vocal performances) and danced his immortal Chaplin style "strut" - to this tune in his popular comedy "Modern Times" from 1936 where he starred with his then - live-in girlfriend - who subsequently became his "early" wife - a famous, glamorous and talented star - Paulette Goddard - one of the many stars vying strongly for the part of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With the Wind" which she almost got - the most coveted role in the 1930's Hollywood - the role that eventually went to Vivian Leigh who quickly became a megastar after her excellent portrayal of the beautiful, capricious, temperamental but enormously strong heroine - Scarlett O'Hara.
Dr.240252 also uploaded his earlier version of this tune performed by an excellent, funky Orchestra led by Carl Fenton - on Oct. 3 - 2012 titled "Carl Fenton - Titina - 1925" which is well worth checking since the comments under that version read like enormously interesting bits of info - a couple of them by the editor of this - here - weekly feature - not boasting or anything like that - guys.
Another video worth viewing again is the one uploaded by theodorin on Dec. 29 - 2009 called "Chaplin - Modern Times - Movie - 1936" in which Chaplin sings and dances in a totally unique - his own - hilarious fashion - even though one of the unaccredited comments under that video claims that it's not him singing - his dancing - however - is obvious and funny. Notice the chemistry between him and Paulette Goddard - it seems so heavy that it could almost be "cut with the knife." They split up anyway - since Chaplin's last, "final" wife - Oona Chaplin - a daughter of the famous, morbid American playwright - Eugene O'Neill - was at least - thirty five years his junior - as she put up with his "genius'es" craziness for many, many years until his death at an old age. She gave birth to several of his talented children.
At any rate - enjoy the videos as you find out new stuff in a fun way - also have a good first week of May 2017 - everybody - and as always - keep checking our YT channel tango3721. Our Choice of YT Vid of the Wk - 4th Wk of Apr.2107 - "'LaCumparsita'-Tango by Carlos Molina - 1931".

For the 4th week of Apr.2017 - we chose a video uploaded on Apr.03-2013 by our friend Dr.240252 titled "'LaCumparsita' - Tango by Carlos Molina - 1931". It needs to be noted briefly that Dr.240252 translated the title to this arguably most famous Tango in the world - as "the hidden one" which we have not seen in any of the translations - of which prevailing majority translates that titles as "The small musical band" which reflects the Tango slang language of the early twentieth century.
Carlos Molina - a Colombian Tango master uses a rich orchestration which keeps the slow beat - lending itself more to listening than to dancing even though - according to the comments by this video - some famous dancers like Martha Graham performed their Tango to this particular arrangement. Still for the "normal", ballroom dancers - a bit faster beat would be easier to execute the ballroom moves of Tango.
The video is dedicated to tango3721 - who edits this weekly features - as you will find out when you read the comments by this video which are very interesting. The composer of this famous Tango - An Uruguayan - Matos Rodriguez - made this piece his enormous claim to international fame.
At any rate - enjoy the video plus all the comments and have a good 4th week of April 2017 - everybody! As always keep checking our channel - tango3721 and don't forget to click here next Thursday or Friday of next week to find out which will be our choice of the Video of the Week for next week!

Our YT Pick for Vid of the Wk - "Hug Me, Squezze Me, Kiss Me - Tango pressed 1935".

For this 3rd week of Apr.2017 - the Easter 2017 and Passover 2017 - weeks - we picked the older video by our friend Dr.240252 - titled "Hug Me, Squeeze Me, Kiss Me - Tango Pressed by Syrena/Electro Warsaw Record Company in 1935" - uploaded on May 21 - 2008.
The lovely music to this Tango was composed by a lesser known Warsaw composer - B.Krupinski with the poetic lyrics written by a prominent Warsaw lyricist/manager of many successful Warsaw venues - Andrzej Wlast. The vocals are performed expertly by Tadeusz Falishewski who sang many Tangos as well as other genres in 1930 - 1939 - the years of prominent artistic activities in Warsaw - before the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. It takes a very seasoned performer to be able to convey the sentimental but subdued tone of this piece the way Falishewski - accomplished it.
Enjoy the video and have a good Easter or Passover week - everybody - whatever holiday applies to you! As always check out our YT channel tango3721 and - please - click here next week so you can find out our YT Choice of the Video of the Week for next week!

Our YT Vid of the Wk. Choice for the 2nd Wk of Apr.2017 - "Polish Tango (Zlota Panthera) - Golden Panther - Gold and Petersburski's Orchestra - 1929."

For the second week of Apr. 2017 - we chose a video uploaded by Dr.240252 on Apr.3-2017 titled "Polish Tango - Golden Panther - (Zlota Pantera)-Gold and Petersbursky's Orchestra - 1929." The music composed by Jakub Kagan - a well-known Warsaw composer with the lyrics by a famous lyricist/producer - Andrzej Wlast.
Dr.240252 gives you an English translation of the turbulent verses. In contrast - the music of this Tango sounds beautiful, soft and enchanting - in contrast with of the brutal lyrics. Love can be harsh and unforgiving - at times.
Andrzej Wlast - the author of many numerous lyrics to various musical pieces built a huge following of fans due to his other activities as a producer of many Warsaw's - entertainment vehicles in thriving Warsaw circa 1929 through 1939.
As a powerful, talented and famous celebrity of his day - he also "accumulated" a big number of jealous detractors who hated his work since they couldn't come up to his level of mastery.
At the end of the day - however - his legacy continues to grow - while the detractors - disappeared - rather soon - following their "efforts".
Moreover - the numbers of his fans who become familiar with his work due to YouTube - keep growing every day. His temporary enemies - on the other hand - disappeared for good - a short time after their brief opportunity to take a "cheap pot shot" at the famous, talented celebrity.
At any rate - have a good week - everybody! Enjoy the coming spring! We meet here - a week from today!
