Squirrel Hill - Pittsburgh, Pa. 15217 - Congregation Beth Shalom organizes first Mondays of the Month - sessions - in which the participants exchange the ideas on "provocative" topics.
The advanced registration is required and the small fee for lunch needs to be paid - both are well worth the effort and the money. During the Mon. March 2 - 2015 - "lunch and learn" a small group of people of various ages and backgrounds - discussed the implications of "always telling the truth" which can be risky.
Rabbi Amy Levin - led the session - and provided the examples from Torah where "telling the truth" was stretched and distorted - in various ways by many famous entitites - including God - for good and powerful causes - of course. The thought provoking discussions of this nature have been going on for a long time - however - after listening to various views on the different variations of "stretching" the facts for many lofty reasons - I came to the conclusion that expressing more honest and truthful views while communicating with other people is - definitely - worth the risk of - possible various and unpredictable - consequences.
Send us an E-mail with your opinion and we will publish the results - next week.
Have a great first week of - almost spring - everybody!
